His parents, James Gosling [born Stondon ca 1850, father William] and Hannah Hammond [born Doddinghurst, father William], were married at Doddinghurst 6th June 1868.  Blackmore’s Baptism Register [ERO D/P 266/1/11] records James William Gosling was baptised on 21st November 1869.  His parents were James, a labourer, and Hannah, of Blackmore.

1881 census.  James Gosling, haybinder, age 31. Born Stondon, with wife Hannah, age 41, born Doddinghurst; and son James W., age 12, born Blackmore lived in Kelvedon Hatch.

1911 census entry for Household:  James Gosling, age 61, born Ongar Essex [also there in 1901; agrees with 1879 marriage]; but son James b. 1869 age 42 is in Samford, Suffolk
